The history of science can be distracted from personalities and re-
duced to the study of theories, methods, approaches without attention to those people
who put them forward or refuted. Of course, such a path can be fully justified. How-
ever, science is done by people, and their human qualities, inclinations, and characters
influence their activities. This influence is considered in the article on the examples of
F. de Saussure, I.A. Baudouin de Courtenay, N.J. Marr, N.I. Konrad, N.I. Feldman,
P.S. Kuznetsov, etc.
